JOHNNY & THE EXPRESSIONS - SHY GIRL

One of the big soul hits of 1965 was "Something I Want to Tell You" by the New York group Johnny & the Expressions.  There were only three singles by this group, one of many of the era to pattern their sound after the influential Impressions, Curtis Mayfield's trio.  (Note the similarity in the groups' names.)  After the success of "Something," the Expressions released two more singles, all on NYC's Josie Records.  They were all fine soul recordings but, unfortunately,  neither could live up to the success of the first one.  "Shy Girl" is the second of their three 45s.  Lead singer is Johnny Matthews.
