DESIRES - BLACK GIRL
Any soul collector who went through stacks of 45s in the 70s and 80s will remember encountering a strange record of which there were dozens of unplayed copies almost stuck together. This is how I found this unusual single in a Chicago wax shop when I lived there in the early 80s. At first I thought it must be something dreadful; there were so many copies, and so cheap! (I think I paid a buck for it.) I took a chance and, while it's no masterpiece, it was far from dreadful. Here's the mysterious "Black Girl" by a group called the Desires (apparently no relation to the doo-wop group of the same name). Could the co-writer "McDaniels" possibly be Eugene McDaniels? ![]() Real Player required. Download Real Player here. |
