Years ago, most DJ-oriented radio
stations published weekly hit sheets, or surveys, that you could pick
up at a local music shop. Printed under the stations'
logos were the lists of the week's top hits. The most
interesting of these surveys are the ones with the longest
list of records. Some have as many as a hundred or more,
giving you an idea of just how much music you could hear on
commercial radio then. We've
collected hundreds of these survey sheets from soul and pop
stations all over the country, dating from the late 50s
through the 80s. Some of
these rare items are now available for viewing. (If you have any lying around that you'd like to
share with us, let us know.) |
